Conference Participation Awards

CONFERENCE PARTICIPATION AWARDS

EUCN and ENGAGE Conference Participation Awards are designed to support postgraduate students to participate at relevant conferences overseas and in New Zealand. The awards of up to NZ$ 1,500 can be used to cover economy airfares, accommodation, ground travel and living expenses whilst traveling for the conference. Funds cannot be used to cover living expenses whilst based at your home institution. If possible, costs will be pre-paid by us. In your application, include a draft itinerary of your travel plan, an estimated reasonable budget, and a short explanation as to your choice of conference.

Eligibility Criteria

You must meet some criteria to be eligible to apply:

  • Applicants must be enrolled (or enrolling) for a post-graduate course of study (Hons, taught MA (MEuro), MA or PhD by thesis, or equivalent) at an EUCN partner university for the 2020/21 academic year.
  • Research topics must focus on the European Union. Students from all disciplines researching Europe and the EU either within New Zealand or the wider Pacific region are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants must be non-EU citizens or hold NZ citizenship or permanent residence (or will gain this by the enrolment date – proof will be required).
  • All spending must take place before 31 August 2021. 


Funding Rules

Here are the main funding rules:

The following rules apply to all funding recipients: 

  • Funding can only be used for the purposes outlined in the application and within the eligibility period. 
  • Funding recipients are expected to demonstrate progress with their studies during the funding period. 
  • Students must attend EU-focused events and seminars at their university.

Application Process & Required Documents

Applications must be submitted by 23:59 on Sunday, 01 March 2021. Late or incomplete applications cannot be accepted. Please follow the following simple steps to complete your application: 

    1. Collect the Required Documents (see below) and save them into ONE pdf file (any scanner can do this, if in doubt ask for help – incomplete applications will not be considered).
      1. A one page summary of your intended course of study and research connected to this. 
        If you have previously received funding from the NCRE please outline how your research has progressed. 
      2. A motivational statement. 
        Please provide a half-page motivational statement as to why you want to participate in this conference, expected outcomes, and studies will benefit from this.
      3. A budget and timeline.
        Include one page that outlines your budget (i.e. flights, accommodation, local transport, etc) and a proposed timeline.
        Tip: We suggest that you take time to research and complete this component with a realistic timeframe and costing as it will increase your chances of being successful. It is also a very useful skill in any future career.  
      4. Your CV which must be no longer than one page in length. 
        Please outline both, your academic and employment/volunteering information. 
      5. Your academic record (transcript) containing your academic history. 
        This must either be signed or certified by the university, a supervisor or administrator with departmental stamp. 
        Tip: Yes, NCRE Administrators can do this. 
    2. Complete the online Application Form and upload the pdf file containing the required documents before the submission deadline.
    3. Submit your application.
    4. Ensure your academic referee emails us a pdf of your reference letter or fills in the appropriate form.

Note: You can apply for multiple opportunities but you must complete an individual application for every category.
